The Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club ("SLSC") has been providing youth with opportunities to grow as sailors, leaders, and community minded individuals, since the 1950s. The club has developed sailors who have competed provincially, nationally, and internationally, and hosts major national and provincial level regattas regularly. The club’s youth participation has grown remarkably, and in recent years the club has further strengthened its commitment to its local community through outreach programs with Big Sisters/Big Brothers and Boys and Girls Clubs, offering less advantaged youth exposure to these same skills and opportunities.
In my second year as Commodore of the SLSC, I am launching an appeal to a broad range of my friends, colleagues, and acquaintances seeking support of a fundraising campaign that will assist with the continued maintenance and renewal of the SLSC’s capital assets. Incidentally, thank you once again to those of you who supported us in last year’s campaign – we were successful in raising sufficient funds through all of our initiatives to add several new sailboats to our fleet.
